I had to write a review on this restaurant because it’s one we keep going back to, over and over.
Right now we’re in the Texas Hill Country, staying near Kerrville. You may have heard of Kerrville — it’s where that devastating flood hit on July 4 of this year (2025) and made national headlines.
Why You Should Visit Rio Ranch Cafe
On occasion, we enjoy going out for breakfast and anytime we’re in Kerrville, we always choose the Rio Ranch. It was recommended to us by one of the campgrounds in the area so we thought we would give it a try — which is exactly how we find the good spots when we’re eating well on the road: we ask the locals.
The Rio Ranch is not a fancy place at all. It’s more of a comfortable cafe style restaurant and I believe it’s a family run business. They serve what they call “Hill Country Cuisine”. Actually a bit of American and Mexican food, but homemade. Yes - their food (most of it) is homemade! And it’s not just breakfast — their lunches and dinners are great too. Just know they often close early, so check their hours before you go: on weekends they close early serving mostly breakfast and lunch, while during the week they’re open til 8pm.
The reason we love this restaurant? The service is exceptional and the food is always delicious - plus - you never have to wait long at all. In fact, I’m amazed at how fast the food comes out no matter how busy they are. So it’s a great place to stop if you want something fast, are hungry (big portions) and tastes great. And if you have a big group, they have an extra room in the back with plenty of seating for large groups.
Pros:
- Exceptional service
- Food comes out very fast
- Homemade food
- Lots of menu options from full breakfasts to dinner meals
- Large portions
- Very clean restaurant
Cons:
- Pay at the counter - sometimes have to wait if they are busy
- Limited parking during busy times
